There To Be - Verbo Haver

THERE TO BE - VERBO HAVER
A expressão verbal formada pela palavra there + verbo to be conjugado tem o mesmo significado que o verbo “haver” (ou “ter”, no sentido de existir), em português.

No entanto, enquanto o verbo “haver” não varia conforme o substantivo ao qual ele se refere, no inglês há variações de número, além da variação temporal também existente no português (presente, passado, futuro). Veja a tabela abaixo:

	Passado	Presente	Futuro
Singular	There was	There is*	There will be
Plural	There were	There are	There will be **

* usa-se a forma contraída: there’s

**repare que, ao conjugar no futuro, não há mudança do singular para o plural

Nas orações negativas, basta acrescentar um not a frente do verbo to be (ou do auxiliar will, no caso do futuro), podendo ser na forma contraída, conforme a tabela abaixo:

Singular	There was not /  There wasn´t	There is not / There isn´t /  There´s not	There will not be/ There won´t be / There´ll not be
Plural	There were not / There weren´t	there are not /  There aren´t	(idem ao singular)

É mais fácil entender através de exemplos:

There is a cat on the roof. (Há um gato no telhado.)

There’s a hole in my soul. (Há um buraco em minha alma.)

There’s water on the floor. (Há água no chão.)

There’s not money in my bag. (Não há dinheiro em minha bolsa.)

There isn’t anyone at the museum. (Não há ninguém no museu.)

There are computers in that room. (Há computadores naquela sala.) 

There are six billion people living on this planet. (Há seis bilhões de pessoas vivendo neste planeta.)

There are not buttons on my shirt. (Não há botões na minha camisa.)

There aren’t cockroaches in the kitchen. (Não há baratas na cozinha.)

There was a man who lived in that castle. (Havia um homem que morava naquele castelo.)

There was a feeling of humiliation floating in the air. (Havia um sentimento de humilhação flutuando no ar.)

There wasn’t happiness in my life. (Não havia felicidade na minha vida.)

There was not a giraffe there at the zoo. (Não havia uma girafa lá no zoológico.)

There were many people at the party. (Havia muitas pessoas na festa.)

There were a few problems to solve. (Havia alguns problemas para resolver.)

There weren’t fruits in the basket. (Não havia frutas na cesta.)

There were not clouds in the sky. (Não havia nuvens no céu.)

There will be great musicians playing. (Haverá ótimos músicos tocando.)

There will be an awful lunch for me. (Haverá um almoço terrível para mim.)

There will not be anyone helping. (Não haverá ninguém ajudando.)

There won’t be water for you to drink. (Não haverá água para você beber.)
